Rust’s November Update: New Weapons, Improved Wolf AI, Gesture Pack DLC, and More

Rust introduces its latest monthly update, packed with new weapons, AI improvements, fresh gestures, and quality-of-life changes. This month, players can look forward to the Handmade SMG, the SKS rifle, revamped wolf AI, and the launch of a Gesture Pack DLC. These additions, along with various tweaks and fixes, aim to enhance both combat and interaction in the game.

New Weapons: Handmade SMG and SKS Rifle

Rust’s arsenal grows with the addition of two weapons:

  • Handmade SMG: Unlockable in the T1 tech tree, this weapon offers a rapid fire rate, compensating for its low accuracy and damage by allowing players to unleash a spray of bullets. Skilled players can use the SMG effectively with the right timing and positioning.
  • SKS Rifle: Available early in the T3 tech tree, the SKS fills a mid-range gap, offering balanced accuracy and stopping power. Players seeking a reliable, straightforward rifle will find the SKS an excellent choice.

Wolf AI Overhaul

Rust’s wolves now pose a more balanced and engaging challenge, thanks to an AI update. Previously either too difficult or trivial to handle, the new wolves have behavior adjustments that give players more tactical options. This revamp is the first step in a planned overhaul for all animal and NPC AI in the game, with the eventual goal of updating Scientists and other wildlife.

Quality-of-Life Improvements

Several small changes bring added convenience to players, including:

  • IO Arrows: Indicators on input/output devices help players easily manage deployables.
  • Floating Objects: Corpses and certain items now drift down rivers, adding realism.
  • CCTV Audio: Players can now listen to conversations near CCTV monitors, adding a tactical advantage.
  • Disable Monument CCTV: Players can disable CCTV cameras for up to five minutes by damaging them.
  • Copy Player IDs: Quickly access player IDs in the report menu.
  • Vendor NPCs at Water Wells: Killable vendor NPCs now appear at all Water Wells, adding interaction points for players.

Gesture Pack DLC: New Ways to Communicate

Available now in Rust’s permanent store, the new Gesture Pack DLC introduces eight gestures, including Rock Paper Scissors, Knuckle Crack, and Finger Gun. This pack also debuts Rust’s first gesture minigame: Rock Paper Scissors. Players can settle in-game disputes with this classic hand game, available through the gesture wheel. Customizing the gesture wheel is now possible, allowing players to assign favorite gestures for easy access.

Other Notable Updates

Radioactive Water Buff: Radiation effects from radioactive water have been increased to make it more effective against fully geared players.Mixing Table Improvements: The mixing table now features faster ingredient placement, with greyed-out options for unaffordable recipes, enhancing crafting efficiency.

Rust’s November update continues to expand the game’s weaponry, realism, and player interactions, with further AI improvements and interactive elements on the horizon.
